Movie: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

It is disconcerting when the plot you've grown so close to for the past week gets chopped up and regurgitated onscreen like a bad General Paper summary. At least that's what happened to Eclipse.

The 3rd instalment (in the book, at least), revolves around vengeful vampire Victoria seeking revenge by building an army of newborn vampires to take down the Cullen clan and claim Bella's head. This has, unfortunately, been sidetracked by the recurring scenes of Edward and Bella kissing, Jacob and Bella kissing, and Jacob and Edward getting pissed with each other. Oh, throw in an obscene number of times Jacob appeared shirtless. Eventually, the show wraps up with alot of mumbling from Edward and Bella.

But I have to give credit to some of the actors and actresses. Jodelle Ferland, for example, did a great job with the short-lived Bree Tanner, a newborn in Victoria's clan, who was saved in the fight by Esme and Carlisle, but eventually destroyed in the unfeeling hands of the Volturi. Nikki Reed pulled off the role of Rosalie Cullen with great ease too, feeding the audience her tragical ending/beginning. Who acted badly, the main characters, especially the male protagonists. Robert Pattinson looked every inch a crybaby whenever Bella was with Jacob; he would drop the sides of his mouth in an uber deadpans manner whenever Jacob has Bella in his arms. And Taylor was a major letdown with his dialogues; they just weren't as intriguing and as well thought-through as they were in the book, and his eyes flitting around just added to his bad acting. The worst would probably be Julia Jones, who played Leah Clearwater. She can't act. Period.

Oh well. It sucks to be trapped in the era of Twilight, isn't it? I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the last 2 parters (Breaking Dawn will be shot in 2 parts) wouldn't kill my tastebuds. I'll hate to provide spoilers to those who don't read, but it'll be interesting to see how little Reneesme will be born. Haha.
