As the sun sets on Valentine's Day

Yes I broke the rules again, because I told you our gift budget for each other is $1, when I'm obviously inept with spending within my limits. I could say the same for you, too. :)

Compared to last year's wine and dine, this year's Valentine's Day was much more laid back - all we want to do after a hectic day of phone calls and meeting demanding nutcases is to kick our shoes off our weary feet and just feed our lovelorn souls and healthy appetites. A simple meal at one of our regular hangouts, a good cuppa at Starbucks, window shopping for a handsome suit for our solemnisation and fiddling with your new camera - I'm nothing short of thankful for every single moment spent together. AND you've been a good boy by stopping at a single rose - Daddy Lee has probably scored you 99/100 points. The 1 point is for that one rose. Hahaha okay I'm just joking, because Daddy and Mummy Lee love you like their own son already.

To our first and last Valentine's Day before we bid farewell to our engaged status and welcome married life with arms and hearts open. But until then, I thank you for giving me so much more than I truly deserve...

... for you will always be the best Valentine's Day gift to me this lifetime, forever and always.

Mosaic of life

Apologies for sitting on it; the past 6 weeks heralded too many changes for me to sit down and take a breather. Positive ones, though. :)

Work is coming in at snail's pace; everyone up there's scrambling around too much to bother with me. It's good in the sense that there's ample time for me to sit down and read the theoretical stuff, observe the social forces acting within the department, build rapport within and beyond the department, as well as search for foodie spots. Jack has been a great help too, be it in terms of clearing my doubts related to policies or simply providing a venue for frustration-venting. Of course, we have to acquire the extra skill of keeping our work and personal lives separate, especially when we're working in the same organisation. I'm soaking it all up, before shit hits the fan.

And hello to my new baby. :)

Despite advice from peers to pick the popular iPhone 4S, I went the other way - towards the Samsung Galaxy SII. It was a difficult decision made simpler after hours of Googling and Youtube-ing "Samsung Galaxy S2 vs iPhone 4S" - I needed a machine that works for me, not the other way round. While others lamented the S2's sheer size and tricky navigation, I embraced its flexibility and amazing AMOLED display. Most importantly, it comes from the school of hard knocks. iPhone 4S? Challenge accepted.

Caught Underworld: Awakening. If you've caught the previous few Underworld movies, you'll probably be in awe of Kate Beckinsale's leather-tight physique and her weapon-wielding battle scenes. Awakening shifted the storyline away from the hybrid-vampire battle by incorporating werewolves into a large part of the plot. While I'm disappointed by the anti-climax, the only saving grace was the cliffhanger - that only means more Underworld to come!

Planning Valentine's Day this time round was extremely mind-boggling - apart from selecting a dining spot that would make that day extremely memorable, the $10 budget I set (to prevent overspending on presents by both of us) almost cost me an arm and a leg. I didn't want us to fall into the commercial trap of Valentine's Day and yet be able to enjoy the night with each other.

These couple of months have left us on tenterhooks, though the seemingly long wait was well worth it. All the planning, the calculating, the fruitless attempts - it was all well paid off. Almost four years into the relationship, and Inever thought I would be this blessed to be in this position of decision-making. And no, it's not a baby we're waiting for. :P If everything goes as planned, all downpayment will be accounted for from our own pockets, without a single cent from our parents. :) Now that's what I call smart. And contrary to what many believe, we didn't have any priority at all. In fact, this was our THIRD attempt.

Now, it's counting down to the 27th. :)

Love is made of Februaries

You should have guessed that Julie has been extremely busy for the past month. You're only half-correct. I was busy AND lazy.

Just a mini-recap, because I hate to retrospect.

XQRJ finals. It has been awe-inspiring, especially for budding musicians. Plus it was an ass-whipping for lazy ex-vocalists like me to remind us of how miniscule we are.

It all started on Valentine's Day 3 years ago, didn't it? This year I had a particularly difficult time trying to conceive a gift idea because this year's Valentine's Day happened to fall on the week I had crazy deadlines to meet. Jack gave me a scrapbook of our photos for the past 2 years. :)

And I made these for him. Gosh I know they look kind of on the hideous side, but I kinda like the way they stick together. :)

... plus I guess I'll never understand why Valentine's Day (or any other occassion) means that you should splurge on flowers. For a fact, florists will simply leverage on it and charge astronomical figures for them and, more importantly, it's simply unfair to base your love on the sacrificing of other lifes. Have you ever thought of flowers as life forms as well? Or does your love override their ride to live? Or would you like to argue that these beautiful things exist for the mere fact that love is selfish? GAH go on with your ways; karma will come back to haunt you and your relationship.

Plus Jack cooked. :)

More importantly, we're three. :)

Some people find it so difficult to stay in love with one person, because they never stop trying to find faults in the other party. Yet we see the best in each other, and accommodate each other's imperfections. We may not be the best in what we do or the most good-looking ones around, but you're the best for me.

Unknown to many, I have suffered several short bouts of self-condescension and self-doubt over the past 2 months, largely because of school work. But things add up in some way of another, and sometimes small misunderstandings tend to erupt into quarrels and a good amount of quibbling. To worsen matters, my heavy workload and tuition schedule totally killed alot of our usual meet-up times. But hey, aren't we still going strong?

We got to celebrate the second half of the day at Jack's Granddad's birthday party, with great wine, food and company. And the warmth I received was so overwhelming, it took alot not to cry while taking in all the sights and sounds. And to know that, one day, all this joy will also be mine to share is simply too much happiness to bear. :)

Moshed.

I'm so lethargic, I don't feel like sleeping anymore. I wanna just carry on fighting until 8pm tomorrow, reach home, and drop dead.

If love is painful, I'm all of willing to suffer from it.

Sometimes, I do take the effort to count the times I miss you over a span of a few hours. But I eventually give up, because I'll lose count anyway.

If my slipper fell, would you help me find it?

I wonder which one is you and which is me.

Or are we just the one single, inseparable entity.

People call drinking a sport to drown out your fears.

I call drinking an activity to celebrate love.

Forrest Gump said that life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you'll get.

I'd say, life is like a classical music score; it's how you change it to fit your liking. Never let the time signature or the ties or the rests tie you down.
